Lauren Singer The Simply Co.

If you’ve ever tried to lead an eco-friendly lifestyle, you surely know how frustrating it can be. The day-to-day reality of the city life mocks your attempts at every step. The more you try, the harder it gets, as you discover just how much of the stuff you use is toxic in one way or another. Luckily, there are people out there whose passion for sustainability helped them to overcome these hindrances. Now, they have paved the way for the rest of us. Get ready to simplify your life with The Simply Co.!

Living What You Preach

It all started with Lauren Singer and her zero-waste lifestyle blog Trash is For Tossers. Now, going zero-waste is no small feat, considering how basically every single product we use is packed in some form of trash; plastic, mostly. Getting rid of it requires tweaking your daily habits so as to replace all of the disposable stuff with reusable alternatives. Some changes, however, are tougher to accomplish, especially when it comes to cleaning articles.

Lauren realized just how much chemicals they contain, many of which are not even tested for safety, nor legally required to be displayed on the packaging. Even the seemingly “green” alternatives proved to be just as bad! To meet the challenge, she had to change the game entirely and started to make her own products. As she shared her formulas, her readers came back wanting more. The demand was there and so The Simply Co. came to be.

Turning Passion into Profit

Their campaign on Kickstarter, back in 2014, hit its $10,000 goal in just 48 hours, eventually reaching over $40,000. Two years later, they’re still in the business, making and selling the simplest washing powder you’ve ever seen. It has just three ingredients: baking soda, washing soda, and 100% vegan castile soap. There’s also a lavender variety spiced with essential oils. It comes in 32oz and 4oz glass jars, each with recyclable metal lids.

Does it even work? You bet it does! Why shouldn’t it? People have used these very ingredients to get their stuff washed and cleaned for centuries, if not millennia. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, that you don’t really need the likes of Tetra Acetyl Ethylene Diamines, Zinc Phthalocyanine Sulphonates and what not to enjoy fresh laundry. Most importantly, however, these products CLEAN for real.

The Simply Co.’s next move is going to involve new packaging boxes. This will decrease the product cost and allow them to expand into new markets. Currently, they’re only shipping in the continental US. If you feel like $20 is too much for a jar of washing powder, check out Lauren’s blog and YouTube channel to learn how to make it on your own. Either way, your laundry will be cleaner than ever before.
